Who We Are

BUMIIZO — meaning “Seeds” in Lugisu/Lumasaba — is a Kampala-based platform dedicated to bridging the infertility knowledge gap in Uganda. We are a neutral, culturally grounded space that connects people, professionals, and stories around fertility and reproductive health — with empathy at the heart of everything we do.

Founded by a Ugandan journalist and storyteller, Jackie Deweyi Namataka –  Bumiizo is not a medical authority. Instead, we curate credible information, amplify expert voices, and create spaces for open, stigma-free dialogue about infertility. Our mission is to ensure that both men and women have access to trusted knowledge, emotional support, and pathways to professional care.

Our Mission

To bridge the fertility knowledge gap in Kampala by fostering understanding, inclusion, and empowerment through storytelling, expert partnerships, and community dialogue.

What We Do

1. Amplify Expert Knowledge

We collaborate with OB-GYNs, fertility specialists, and health NGOs to produce reliable, gender-inclusive content — from videos and articles to workshops and Q&A sessions.
All medical information shared through Bumiizo is vetted by certified fertility experts to ensure accuracy and trustworthiness.

2. Foster Safe Conversations

Through moderated forums, community discussions, and WhatsApp groups, we create judgment-free spaces for couples and individuals to share their journeys.
Our storytelling approach transforms personal experiences into collective learning — building empathy, breaking myths, and restoring hope.

3. Connect to Vetted Care

Bumiizo partners with trusted clinics and organizations to link users to affordable fertility screenings, counseling, and educational workshops.
We bridge—not replace—the medical and emotional support systems people need.

Why Bumiizo

Infertility in Kampala affects both men and women, yet discussions often remain shrouded in stigma, myths, and silence.
From cultural misconceptions about witchcraft or curses to emotional isolation and prohibitive healthcare costs, too many individuals face these struggles alone.

Bumiizo was born to change that — by making information accessible, fostering empathy, and creating a culture where infertility is understood, not hidden.

Our Approach

  • Culturally Sensitive: Rooted in Ugandan realities and respectful of local traditions and laws.
  • Inclusive: Engaging men and women equally in the fertility conversation.
  • Collaborative: Built with input from experts, communities, and cultural advisors.
  • Ethical: Compliant with Uganda’s health communication and privacy standards.

Our Vision

A Uganda where infertility is discussed openly, understood accurately, and addressed compassionately — enabling every individual and couple to make informed decisions and feel supported on their fertility journey.

Looking Ahead

By 2025, Bumiizo aims to:

  • Reach 500+ website users (with at least 40% male participation).
  • Host five annual workshops tackling both male and female infertility.
  • Partner with three fertility clinics and NGOs to extend our impact.
  • Contribute to a measurable 30% reduction in infertility-related stigma in Kampala communities.

Our Inspiration

Like the Oprah Winfrey model that inspires us, Bumiizo exists to amplify voices, not claim authority.
We believe in the power of conversation — guided by empathy, grounded in truth, and shaped by the lived experiences of Ugandans.
